Grown-up Denim
By · Jun 30 2011My first exposure to designer jeans was being told my friend Michelle at age 12 that I couldn’t go to 7th grade without a pair of Luckys.
I didn’t even know what Luckys were, but jr. high is scary enough, so I panicked and told my mom that I had to have this “school supply.” I’m pretty sure my mom called her mom, figured out they were jeans and I’ll never forget wearing them every single day until the jeans split in April in the middle of band class.
I’m since moved on from Luckys, but I haven’t ventured too much into the denim world. I don’t spend too much money on denim lately, mostly grabbing jeans at Gap’s 40 percent off sale. I’ve been checking out some denim brands lately and I’m hoping for a sale soon so I can score some jeans.
I recognize the importance of fabulously fitting jeans. There’s something amazing about slipping into a pair of jeans that just fit like a glove. I want, I want, I want.
My friend has these, and I couldn’t stop checking her out the other night! They were so perfect. Perfect if your office allows you to wear jeans, but you still want to look sharp. They’d look incredible with a tucked-in button-up or a blazer.
J Brand Mid-Rise Slim Boot Jeans, $174, ShopBop
I think this picture is a little photoshopped, but I love every look I see with J Brands. They seem to fit everyone perfectly. They’d be great for a casual Friday, and they’d go straight to date night.
Citizens of Humanity Ava Straight Leg Jeans, $149, ShopBop
These are weekend jeans. Perfect for anything. Jeans that you can do everything in, from brunch to walking the dog. From wearing heels to wearing my Toms.
So if I’m about to make a considerable investment, what are your favorite denim brands? Any good denim sales that you are aware of? I’m thinking the Nordstrom sale will be a good place to start.

Life is scattered, like bobby pins in your bathroom drawer, no? Dance backwards in high heels with me. Let's talk clothes and news. I *love* clothes and news.

I always said I would never give in to designer jeans, and I had a lot of bad things to say about them. Ha, then I tried them. Now it’s all I wear. They feel amazing and my backside has never looked better.
The only ones I have tried are 7FAM and Citizens. I love both, but I’ve been wearing my 7FAM bootcuts the most recently. They are just FABULOUS!
A less popular designer brand is David Kahn and I absolutely love those too.
Another one of my fave things about designer is that the washes are so perfect. You can just tell they are NICE. I always get tons of compliments when I wear my designer jeans. Worth the investment.
Can’t wait to see what you choose!
Yes Ii remember calling Michelle’s mom to get the scoop on Lucky Jeans
.
Designer Denim is the BEST! they make you feel amazing! I love so many. For skinnies though I like the William Rast Jeggings, so obsessed! For everyday I love Citizens.
Loehmans! They have the best prices on designer jeans and good prices. I swear by Rockin Republics…they are perfect if you have small legs and put the extra cushion in your waist (that’s me!). Hudson are good for bottays and J Brand are good for extra in the thighs and are really good quality. Paper, Denim and Clothe tend not to have any give you can only wear them if you don’t plan to eat and my citizens ripped across the butt as did my sisters not to long after owning them.
I have a pair of Citizens that I wear at least once or twice a week. They are skinny but they don’t fit like leggings around the ankle, they’re just a very narrow leg. And their petite length fits me absolutely perfectly. They’re my absolute favorite jeans, despite having two pairs of True Religions that I thought I was in love with. The TRs are nice too, though, if you don’t mind the tell-tale markings on the butt that let everyone know I AM WEARING $200+ JEANS.
I LOVE me some designer jeans! I think the $ is so worth it when you can put them on and swear you just lost 5 lbs and had a butt lift
I like Nordstom’s Rack. Joe’s Jeans in the Honey cut and the Seven For All Mankind A-pocket are my favorites
Hahaha Lucky’s as a school supply, that is awesome.
My favorite straight legs are from Banana Republic – The Ultimate Skinny (but I think they fit more like a straight leg). I also love Joe’s, so soft and comfortable.
Oh and I get my designer jeans at either Costco or The Rack.
Jeans hurt my bladder so I’m trying not to wear them anymore. But I had finally mastered the sleek jean look!!
Definitely think the nordstrom anniversary sale would be a great place to start, there will be so many a great prices. Also I love Nordstrom rack.
Looked around nordie’s website to see who does shorter inseams. But if you can’t find the right ones short enough, nordstroms tailors do an amazing hem with the original seam. $$ but really worth it. I’ve always regretted it when I didn’t use them. (They’ll do non store purchases too)
I’ve got a stretchy dark pair of Paige jeans that I love love love. They do this awesome thing where they are low/mid rise at the front but are cut an inch or two higher at the back so my crack doesn’t show when I sit down. Best thing ever. The jeans cut, not my crack.
I have all 3 pairs of the jeans you listed and hands down my favorite are the Citizens. They’re completely worth the $$. I have to buy designer denim because I need a 36″ inseam and they seem to be the only ones that go that long. The best advice I can give you is try on everything with heels! You want a tight fit because they will stretch out after you wear them for an hour or so. Have fun and good luck! Can’t wait to see which ones you get!
