Aggie
By · Aug 25 2011Do you have places that you went to with your grandma, your mom and full-on plan to take your kids to? That’s Utah State for me. It is more than just a college, it is where my grandparents on both sides worked, it is where my parents met. It is where I found myself.
I always think back to that feeling of graduating. I could do no wrong. The journalism department awarded me the ever-so-inflated title of ”student of the year.” I had a job lined up. I was queen.
When I lose that feeling, I turn my mind to my days at USU. I find my girl power and I rock whatever needs to be done. My mom and I ventured up to USU on Monday as part of this whole “get centered” trip. If I look totally sweaty in these pictures, it is because I was. It has been a week of scorching temps. I’m used to 70-degrees year-round. The extremes of Utah would take some getting used to.
First stop was Aggie Ice Cream, which is the best ice cream out there. I know you BYU people think your Creamery is better, but that is just not so. I challenge you to an ice cream throwdown any day of the week. Mostly because I will eat ice cream of any type and this would give me an excuse to do just that. So it is on, Cougars, it is on.
Second stop was a walk around campus. See this building? It is new. But they ripped down my place of employment — the Merrill Library — to build it (feeling old moment number one). For two years, I toiled as the girl who checks out the books. It was amaze. I got so many dates from that job.
Now the journalism department will be moving into the new building, a fact I discovered when I stopped into the department to say hello and found that many of my professors had retired (feeling old moment number two). And abandoning the Animal Science building, where I spent so many hours of my life at USU. One time we learned that Pita Pit will deliver to campus at 2 a.m. And many times I re-learned that the smelly couch doesn’t seem like a bad sleeping prospect when you arrive on campus at midnight to edit video and all of the editing bays are booked.
I hope they don’t rip down that building. Too many memories. We walked around Old Main and then went to the Bookstore for a new t-shirt. When in Rome, right? One of the best moments was when a girl I used to babysit came running up to me. She’s a freshman this year (feeling old moment number three). And then I found my cousin in line for a student ID. This was not planned! We were all on campus at the same time on the same day. How amaze is that? Well, they had the excuse of starting school, but still. I introduced them to each other and now they are going to be best friends.
After campus, we went to have my specialty — a blueberry, raspberry, strawberry shake at LeBeaus. You can steal my recipe for success. And then thank me later. I met up with Emilie — this was a schedule meeting, not per chance. This meeting was long overdue. And my heart enjoyed our conversation, no matter how fast.
After that, we picked up my dad’s favorite pizza. My parents used to go on dates to Fredricos. They’ve remodeled the outside, but the inside is still dark and lit by lamps. The garlic bread is amaze.
So basically we ate our way through Logan, thank you very much. Clearly I associate good times with good food.
In addition to being hot and sweaty, I’m wearing: Dress: Banana Republic Shoes: Ann Taylor LOFT — totally stealing these and taking them home with me. LOVE. They remind me of Seychelles.

Life is scattered, like bobby pins in your bathroom drawer, no? Dance backwards in high heels with me. Let's talk clothes and news. I *love* clothes and news.

Such a fun day! I think those shoes are meant to be yours. I’m putting them in your suitcase

Whenever I go home to visit my mom, or she comes here, it seems like we frame our entire weekend around eating. It just seems like the right thing to do! I whole heartedly love your walk down memory lane via food. Sounds like a great day!
I’m a Cougar, but my husband’s family is from Logan, and I have to admit – Aggie Ice Cream rocks socks!
But I still challenge you to a throwdown. Cause then we can eat all the ice cream.

Great dress. It is not only lovely but a very flattering fit. I’m jealous. Fitted dresses are hard to find for short gals!
I totally know how you feel. I love going back home to Minnesota and seeing friends and family. These days we only go home at Christmas but I would love to go during the Summer when the weather is much better!
Have a good trip!
I’ve taken the BYU/Aggie Creamery challenge. Aggie ice cream FAR FAR exceeds in deliciousness.
So fun to see you!
This post makes me want to plan a day trip to Logan. That beautiful valley has a soft spot in my heart. I loved my college days there. It’s where I found myself as well.
You’re making me home sick for Logan! I drove to Salt Lake last week and the mountains make me Logan-sick too. And first semester of the year I lived with you was probably the best! Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

I love USU — I wish I went there over BYU but I couldn’t afford the out of state, which was probably a good choice post law school debt.
I love that dress. I need it.

Oooohhh this post made my heart ache! USU is also my sanctuary. It has so many memories and so much meaning. It’s also where I found myself and discovered that I really like her! If my kids don’t go to USU I’m giving them back to the adoption agency.
