The Missoni for Target craziness

This day has been on my calendar for months. I got to Target this morning at 7:30 a.m., grabbed a cart and the adrenalin definitely got pumping. I met up with Kinzie and we explored together.

We hit the clothes first — and we were fast! — but by the time we got to the second floor, there was no housewares left. 20110913-023941.jpgSomeone handed me a stack of six cups as if it was a total treasure. I didn’t need the cups so when I checked out, I asked the girl in front of me if she wanted them. It was early, and most of the people were there for Missoni stuff.

Get this – she wasn’t. She had no idea. But she could tell they were a hot item – so she bought them anyway. She was only there for Tylenol and a bottle of water. The cups increased her purchase by about $50.

Where we really scored was by the stockroom. They were grabbing the stuff in the back and taking it out to the store. As stuff rolled by, we would grab it, if we wanted it. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds — I really wanted a blanket, more than anything else, and the nice employee took us back there so we could get them. The carts rolling past us with extra stuff was just a bonus.

I’ll be honest. I was one of those crazy people who just grabbed one of everything in my size and sorted it out at check-out. I am going to have to return some things, and I feel bad because a lot of people wanted them, but in my defense, a lot of the items I bought didn’t have price tags on them because they were restock items.

But because of that, I wouldn’t be so worried if your Target seems out of the stuff. Just got at the open of business another day, when they’ve set the store back up. The Mission Valley store thought they would get more next week. They didn’t get any office supplies with their first shipment either.

As for the quality? The clothing is all synthetic and I think the prices are too high. I will have to hand-wash both of my cardigans. I love them for the design, not because they are so-called designer. Because let’s be honest, they are Target, not designer quality.

I liked the dresses but they were too short for me.

As for the rest – this is my haul. The prices were a little high, so I think I’ll be taking back the umbrella, tote and towels. I put them on eBay for a little bit less than some of the crazy prices that people are charging.

I really like the clutch, but I think I could part with it. I think.

Not pictured: a tie that husband requested I get. When I saw that this picture didn’t have it, I nearly had a heart attack, checked my receipt, and then checked the car. It was still there. Thank goodness.

I need to see what husband thinks of the comforter. I had no plans of getting a new bedding set! But husband and I have talked about it for awhile, and this comforter has the same colors as both our walls and the carpet. So I’m calling it fate. And the blanket matches it really well. So I am hoping that husband likes it. Our current bedspread is an heirloom handmade by my grandma and I worry it is getting ruined.

Target did a great job with this collection. They advertised it profusely, they created buzz, and the products are definitely for Target customers, not necessarily people who want to buy designer. Missoni wins too. Their brand awareness just jumped several degrees. And I win. Look a that couch. Oh goodness gracious.

P.S. If you didn’t luck out on Missoni, you can still luck out in my giveaway for a Shabby Apple dress!

That is so crazy! I have been trying to get on their site all day but because of the high traffic I haven’t been able to. Looks like you got some great stuff!

I hit 2 stores, because when I tried the site at 7:30 am it had already completely crashed. I was lucky that there was literally NO RUSH at my first store–I got everything I wanted in my size, tried it all on, and decided what to buy (the shirtdress, the blue shortsleeve dress that will be worn as a tunic, and the neutral open cardi). I also scored 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of tights, and and umbrella. The second store was literally picked clean. I was hoping to find the bath rug or any housewares, and no luck. BUT, I did find the chevron pumps in my size (!), and the gorgeous glass vase. Online, I waited around to buy the swimsuit, as we’re going on a cruise in October. And a silk scarf.

I’m actually stunned at the high quality. No, it’s not full Missoni knit. But the fabric seems thick and stable to me, especially considering that “real” Missoni is often quite cobwebby and delicate. All 3 of my clothing pieces seem really well made, and the glass vase is literally breathtaking.

However, the INSANITY with the website just has to stop. They have to realize that if they market the way they have been doing, they HAVE to put some more firepower behind their servers. It’s ridiculous. They’re still down!

That being said, I’m personally delighted. It was a lot of money for me to spend at once, but I got lots of things that are totally my style and that I’ll wear for a long time. Totally worth it!

So… no idea this was happening, until I saw it all over facebook. So Olivia and I took an afternoon trip to Target. They still had almost everything, except for anything in the handbag section, minus the totes. There were a few of those. The rest of the store had everything. I must really live in the ghetto…

I love the swirls on the comforter! I always like the multi-colored chevrons on other people, but I have a hard time pulling it off. Maybe now is the time to try!

I heard so many stories about the Missoni takeover all over the boggersphere and twitter universe. So happy I stayed home. I probably got to get my piece of Missoni later this week! Love the cardigans!

I was busy all day yesterday and was finally able to make it to Target today. The missoni sections were a ghost town. And this is in a small town in the midwest!!
The only thing I really wanted were the zig-zag flats. (Completely sold out). I ended up impulse buying one of the dresses because I had wanted the flats so badly! :(

  12. Wow. I mean, the stuff was cute, but not THAT cute. Target definitely did a good job marketing. I noticed the empty clothing rack last night when I swung through the Sports Arena Target.

I heard that the stores around here were super crazy! I’m glad I didn’t go. I got online & looked at the selection & to be honest I really wasn’t that crazy about a lot of it. I thought the line was a bit pricey! Looks like you got a few good things you went after. I’m sure it was fun at the very least!

Strange, the craze must not be here, three days later our Target still has full shelves. Need/want anything?

  16. Jessica @ Acting Adult says:

Ok, I don’t get the whole Missoni thing. I get that it’s a designer and to have them at Target for a discounted price is good – but I’m not in love with those products. I’ll try to check them out at some point and see if I like any of the other products. That clutch is really cute in your haul.

I think you should keep the comforter, it has a great print and very pretty colors. I got to Target just before opening, and bought most of my wish list items, including the bike! I detailed my shopping experience on my blog, and I’ve been wearing my sweaters and dresses for the past couple of days. Enjoy your purchases!

I think this stuff is really ugly and have no idea what all the excitement is about.
