Getting our Disney on

Disneyland Christmas 2011

Can you believe this guy had never been to Disneyland until last week? This was something we had to fix before we moved. The time between Halloween and Christmas proved to be the perfect time. Our longest wait was 30 minutes and we had no issues getting into shows — even on a weekend. Thank goodness because I have an irrational fear of crowds and Disneyland was not the place I wanted to deal with it.

Disney does magic right. You just feel like a kid again. It’s amazing how they pull that off. I got a little emotional during the parade. We laughed and really enjoyed being together.

It has been 10 years since I last ventured to Disneyland — for our high school biology trip. I had never been to California Adventure, so there was a lot of new for me too. World of Color, the night show, is amazing. So magical. So Disney.

Oh, and we’re now annual pass holders. It was a better deal than a multi-day park hopper because of our SoCal zipcode. With the cheaper pass and then getting 10 percent off all merchandise and food, we were quite impressed with ourselves. Now we are thinking of slipping back up to Disneyland when we are back in San Diego in May for my graduation.

I pretty much ate junk the whole time. From deep fried food to massive amounts of ice cream to red velvet cake. I covered all options for sweets.

Aw Disney. Thanks for working your magic on us. We heart you.

The Camel Dairy

We made our annual trip to Julian last Saturday. It was rainy and a little bit bittersweet because we knew it would be our last trip to the town. It’s really our only tradition — we’ve gone five times, once for every autumn spent in San Diego.

Last year we spied a sign for a camel dairy on our way and I declared that’s what we were doing the next year. However the camel dairy owners also race turkeys in state fairs — all humane, it’s actually a fake race that is more of a show apparently — and so the only weekend they could a tour was Saturday.

Of course this late into the year you run the risk of rain, and that is exactly what we got. It dumped. We were all soaked. So instead of the chance to ride camels and milk them, we pet and fed them. Sad, yes, but still crazy cool. The camels have so much personality.

The one thing I missed taking a picture of was the cutest baby lamb you have ever seen. It was like a little puppy! I couldn’t handle the cute. And when you petted it, it felt like a wet sweater. Which makes total sense considering it is wool, but still adorable.

Then we ate at Rongbranch. They have two stars on Yelp for a reason. The service is backwoods. They always get the order wrong. We all ordered something different — but they brought four hamburgers. Then they brought our order, but in my bacon-and-cheese mashed potatoes, there was no bacon.  They can always get our group of 20 people in with no reservations — important because the number always changes on the spot — and their food is affordable, so the joke continues. Well, this is our last year, so I guess it is over now. Sad!

Everyone left for home after the late lunch, but husband and I stayed. We knew we were saying goodbye to an era. We sat down in one of the pie shops and ordered apple pie and laughed about memories. Goodness SoCal, I love you. It’s going to be hard to leave.

Friday, Friday…

So after my nervous post yesterday, I’m happy to say that I rocked that presentation. I killed it. The venture capitalists offered me the most money and they all believed in my idea.

If only it was real moolah right.

Also? It thrills me that while I was the only woman that presented, two of the three investors were woman. You just don’t see those 2-to-1 odds in business school.

Now today I’m at BlogWorld. The energy is fantastic. I’m loving it.

Have a good weekend!

I’m nervous so I’m writing

I’m presenting in just under two hours at V2, an entrepreneurship event. I presented yesterday. I am presenting tomorrow at Blogworld.

(in case the attendees check out my blog during the presentation, since the idea is inspired from this blog, please note the idea is rocking. The idea is needed)

I’m just not really a public speaker that seeks out opportunities. So to do it thrice in a week is intense. And I know it is uncool to admit that you’re nervous, but I am. So I’m blogging and I have a sudden urge to cook and clean, which my husband would confirm is definitely out of the ordinary these days.

I always talk through the nerves. What are you nervous about Natalie? That I’ll look stupid and people will judge me and no one will be my friend anymore and life will cease to exist as I know it. Alright, well back off that ledge. Listen to some music. Drink a hot cocoa. But not caffiene. Never caffiene before a presentation. Worst idea ever.

I’m not too nervous about BlogWorld. I’m passionate about the topic and in social media events I feel like I am presenting among friends. But tonight? Tonight is on a stage and I’m wearing a suit. I know my idea is rocking, I know my business plan is solid, but nerves abound.

And last night, when I started presenting in my capstone class — two girls in the back started giggling. And look, my sane mind knows that they were totally not paying attention to me, and they were laughing at a joke. But my irrational mind? That side of the brain thinks that surely I was saying something stupid.

Writing always calms my nerves. My notebooks in class are full of short stories about random things to distract me. So here I am world.

Another thing easing the nerves? I’m done with school in 5.5 weeks. So even if I look like a fool, fall on my face and no one likes my idea (except my professor who said it was the best — print that out and put it up on the fridge I did), well, peace out San Diego.

Wait — 5.5 weeks. Let’s savor this. Five and a half weeks.

That’s calming in and of itself isn’t it?

Don’t you think?

That this…

cute pug

Would look great in this?

panda dog costume

And that she’d make one happy panda? Or, even better, a sad panda!

The only time I ever want a baby is around Halloween. Babies in costume, does it get any better?
