Getting our Disney on
Posted by: | CommentsCan you believe this guy had never been to Disneyland until last week? This was something we had to fix before we moved. The time between Halloween and Christmas proved to be the perfect time. Our longest wait was 30 minutes and we had no issues getting into shows — even on a weekend. Thank goodness because I have an irrational fear of crowds and Disneyland was not the place I wanted to deal with it.
Disney does magic right. You just feel like a kid again. It’s amazing how they pull that off. I got a little emotional during the parade. We laughed and really enjoyed being together.
It has been 10 years since I last ventured to Disneyland — for our high school biology trip. I had never been to California Adventure, so there was a lot of new for me too. World of Color, the night show, is amazing. So magical. So Disney.

Oh, and we’re now annual pass holders. It was a better deal than a multi-day park hopper because of our SoCal zipcode. With the cheaper pass and then getting 10 percent off all merchandise and food, we were quite impressed with ourselves. Now we are thinking of slipping back up to Disneyland when we are back in San Diego in May for my graduation.

I pretty much ate junk the whole time. From deep fried food to massive amounts of ice cream to red velvet cake. I covered all options for sweets.
Aw Disney. Thanks for working your magic on us. We heart you.
The Camel Dairy
Posted by: | CommentsWe made our annual trip to Julian last Saturday. It was rainy and a little bit bittersweet because we knew it would be our last trip to the town. It’s really our only tradition — we’ve gone five times, once for every autumn spent in San Diego.
Last year we spied a sign for a camel dairy on our way and I declared that’s what we were doing the next year. However the camel dairy owners also race turkeys in state fairs — all humane, it’s actually a fake race that is more of a show apparently — and so the only weekend they could a tour was Saturday.
Of course this late into the year you run the risk of rain, and that is exactly what we got. It dumped. We were all soaked. So instead of the chance to ride camels and milk them, we pet and fed them. Sad, yes, but still crazy cool. The camels have so much personality.
The one thing I missed taking a picture of was the cutest baby lamb you have ever seen. It was like a little puppy! I couldn’t handle the cute. And when you petted it, it felt like a wet sweater. Which makes total sense considering it is wool, but still adorable.
Then we ate at Rongbranch. They have two stars on Yelp for a reason. The service is backwoods. They always get the order wrong. We all ordered something different — but they brought four hamburgers. Then they brought our order, but in my bacon-and-cheese mashed potatoes, there was no bacon. They can always get our group of 20 people in with no reservations — important because the number always changes on the spot — and their food is affordable, so the joke continues. Well, this is our last year, so I guess it is over now. Sad!
Everyone left for home after the late lunch, but husband and I stayed. We knew we were saying goodbye to an era. We sat down in one of the pie shops and ordered apple pie and laughed about memories. Goodness SoCal, I love you. It’s going to be hard to leave.
SDSU Farmers Market
Posted by: | CommentsI got this great idea last week that the puppy and I would walk to the farmers market at San Diego State. It is about a mile walk and in my urban brain, I pictured the puppy and I starting a tradition of walking there every Thursday to pick up fresh produce.
I had secondary motivation too. Levis had sent me a news release about their denim event at the farmers market, and and since I am on a quest for adult denim, I was all “two birds, one stone!”
We grabbed our market bag and set out.

No such luck with the produce. There aren’t any vegetable stands or anything at the market. It is all eateries. Food establishments that aren’t allowed to sell beverages because of agreements with the school. I love food, don’t get me wrong, I snagged a lemon crepe and it was divine. But my puppy was thirsty and there was no way her unprepared mom could get her something to drink.

It wasn’t a total bust. The Levi jeans fit amazing. Now I want them. Is that silly — are Levi’s so not in style? I like the black skinnies — I really want a pair of black jeans now.
Levis has four fits — a slight, demi, bold and supreme. Based on a personality test and my hip and waist measurements they determined I was a slight or demi. Then, when I tried them on, I was deemed a “slight.”
I think that is a nice way of saying I don’t have any curves.

Oh, and if you do try them on, know that they run about a size too small. I couldn’t pull my regular size up! But a size up fit perfect. And no, the fact that most days my lunch consists of ice cream is not the reason I had to go a size up! It was a common problem.
And have you entered the giveaway for a $50 drugstore.com giftcard? Super savings.
Threadshow
Posted by: | Comments
Hey this snuck up on me. But do you want to go to the Threadshow? It’s an amazing day of shopping and checking out the latest trends. I had a lot of fun last year. There’s even a clothing swap this year — and I would love to get in on that.
It is this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Usually it costs $5 if you buy your ticket online or $10 at the door. But I have some freebies!
Elle Communications sent me tickets to giveaway — and they need the names of the winners ASAP so they can get in free! So here’s how this works – if you want to go, leave a comment or send me an email (natalie at thebobbypin.com) and you win! I’ll put your name on the list.
I really wish I could go. I’ll be driving to Utah — something I’m totally excited about but sad to be missing out on the Threadshow goodness! Sorry about the late notice… I’ve been busy with other giveaways (want to win a $50 giftcard to drugstore.com) and homework. So. much. homework.
Ocean blue
Posted by: | CommentsSan Diegans, get yourselves down to the ocean tonight. The coolest thing is happening along the coast. The ocean is glowing blue.
After hearing how amazing it was, we drove to Torrey Pines last night. At 10 p.m. the beach was unusually packed. Then a wave broke and we could see why.
It looked like someone threw glow sticks into the water.
Apparently the water is full of algae that looks red during the day — known as red tide — and it glows at night when the water is moved, like during a wave. You can read more on the scientific stuff here. I don’t know much about it, I just know that it was very cool.
My pictures didn’t turn out — I can’t hold still that long and I didn’t have a tripod. You can still kind of see the blue glow though.
Some things are definitely best experienced in person anyway.

Life is scattered, like bobby pins in your bathroom drawer, no? Dance backwards in high heels with me. Let's talk clothes and news. I *love* clothes and news.
